Pestfurlong moss forms a significant lowland raised bog habitat ecological stepping stone between the larger neighbouring mosslands, Risley and Holdcroft. The site is managed by a local community volunteer group, the Friends of Gorse Covert Mounds and the project plan for the site includes the restoration of the rare lowland raised bog habitat through rewetting and scrub & woodland management. Other site works include invasive species control, fence construction, biological surveying, path enhancements and boardwalk construction that will simultaneously improve access and protect sensitive areas of the site.   Where: Gorse Covert Rd, Birchwood, Warrington WA3 When: Week day and occasional weekend volunteering opportunities What: Practical habitat management and biological recording
