Rixton Clay Pits

Rixton Clay Pits
Tuesday, 22. December 2020 (All day)
The project will aim to link up two isolated Special Areas of Conservation by connecting the sites via a habitat corridor by clearing tree, scrub and other vegetation through practical habitat management sessions. This work, along with some damming to retain water will increase the wet grassland area by 1.3ha, which will help safeguard the rich Great Crested Newt Population. Other work will improve public accessibility to desired areas, enhancing the Rixton Claypits experience, without detriment to the Great Crested Newt population. To maintain the project’s long term sustainability conservation grazing will be increased as a form of habitat management. This will require an extension to the existing fencing infrastructure. Volunteering opportunities will be provided through Warrington Borough Council Ranger Service. Where: Rixton Clay Pits Nature Reserve, Warrington WA3 When: Regular week day and occasional weekend volunteering opportunities What: Practical habitat management and biological recording
