Windy Bank Woods to Lancashire Mining Museum Linear

Ramble between wetlands

This is a linear route and you can either start at Bents Garden Centre or at the Lancashire Mining Museum – there are places to stop for food and drinks at either end. The directions are written as though you walking from Bents Garden Centre.

 6 miles overall

This walk begins at Bents Garden Centre. There are toilets here, and a cafe - including one for dogs!

First, go past the dog café, then through the car park and turn right onto the footpath through the field. At the end of field go through another gate – it is a tight squeeze so take care – and then go right on Jennet’s Lane .

Once you cross over the bridge turn right towards Windy Bank Wood. Keep straight at the crossroads.

There is a small car park on your left  – there is a public right of way here but it is easy to miss as the signs are hidden and path slightly overgrown. Take this path, going straight ahead where it crosses a footpath  and over a style.

The path you want has a hedge on either side and goes straight to Netherbarrow Farm. You’ll be walking past chicken coops before you come to a road . To the left is a dead end, so you are going to the right and crossing over Black Moss Brook, taking the next right onto Hope lane

At the end of Hope Lane, you’ll come to the East Lancs Road, where you’ll turn right, staying on that side of the road. Take the first right onto Morley’s Lane and then the first turning left.

From here, walk down Morley’s Lane until the first left turn towards the Bridgewater canal. Once on the canal, turn right. Pass under Linguards Bridge, enjoy the newly renovated path that has replaced the muddy mile, and keep walking until Higher Green Lane Bridge.
